The Proper Way to Peel and De-vein Shrimp

You can buy pre-cleaned shrimp, but you usually pay a premium to have someone else do something you can do easily at home, and know you're doing right. This video shows you how it's done so you can do it yourself.


Use kitchen scissors to cut down the back of the shrimp. Then, pull the shell downward to remove it—make sure to get the legs. Whether you leave the tail on is up to you. Next, lay the shrimp on a paper towel and gently use the tip of a small knife to pull the vein out of the back of shrimp.
