The Dos and Don'ts of Being a Good Party Guest

There's a certain point in life when going to a party means a little more than playing beer pong in a buddy's basement. Parties become gatherings where your behavior may determine whether you get invited again. Here are some dos and don'ts to help make sure you do.

Parties are meant to be fun, but sometimes people forget showing some of the most common courtesies to their host. Nancy Mitchell at Apartment Therapy has some great tips so you don't become that person nobody wants at their parties:

Do:

  • RSVP: It's impossible for the host to know how much of what to have if you don't.

  • Offer to bring something: Help the host out by providing something for the party. It can help them cut cost and ensure there's something there you like.

  • Talk to people you don't know: Don't seclude others just because you don't know them. If you're the odd man out, make an effort to introduce yourself.

  • Say thanks: The most important of all. It's hard to throw a nice party, so always say thank you.

Don't:

  • Show up right on time: This gives your host some breathing room and ensure's you don't stress them out while they make last-minute changes.

  • Bring something that requires a lot of prep: It's good to bring something to the party, but not something that's a pain to set up, cook, or serve. Keep it simple.

  • Leave without saying goodbye to your host: You can disappear from other guests if you want, but let your host know you're leaving and remember to thank them.

These simple dos and don'ts will get you an invite every time. It all boils down to the golden rule: how would you want your guests to act at your party? You can read more great party guest tips at the link below.
