Before You Buy a Tool, See If You Can Borrow or Rent It

Sometimes you'll be working a project at home, and your first instinct might be to buy the tool you need. You'll then have a box of tools you've only used once. Consider borrowing or renting a tool to save money and reduces clutter.

Usually, our cordless drill does what we need, but not for a bigger job like this one. Instead of talking myself into a corded drill – after all, we had a great use case for it right there in front of us – we recognized that this was a pretty rare case for us and just contacted a few friends. It turned out that one of them had a corded drill with a lot of torque. I borrowed it a couple of days later and finished the project in about half an hour.

If you can't find a friend who has something you can borrow, check out renting the tool.
