This DIY Monitor Stand and Built-In USB Hub Is Cheap and Easy to Build

One trip to IKEA (and maybe an Amazon order for the USB hub) and this monitor stand can live on your desk, charging your devices, offering easy to reach USB ports, and making your display just a little more ergonomic all at the same time. Here’s what you’ll need to build it.

The parts list for this one is pretty short. You’ll need one white LACK wall shelf ($7 for the one shown above, but if you have multiple monitors, a longer one is available for $14), and four white RAFFIG curtain rod finals. You can probably see where this is going—the curtain rod ends are the “feet” for the monitor stand, and the LACK is the actual shelf. The finals offer just enough clearance at the bottom to slide a keyboard under, or mount a USB hub underneath. The project above uses this tiny 4-port model, but you have plenty of options to choose from, many with more ports.

Of course, you don’t have to go the IKEA route for this. After all, our own Whitson Gordon made a monitor stand from door stops and a shelf much like this one from Home Depot for less, so shop around—you may not get that pearly white look, but whatever option you choose, it’ll be easy to build, and add some utility and ergonomics to your workspace.
