When it comes to making great money, engineers are right up there with computer science majors in terms of earning potential. Here are the highest paid engineering gigs in the industry, as well as the most popular major found in those job roles.
The data presented, from PayScale’s 2013-2014 College Salary Report, features the job title, the experienced median pay, and the common major. Experienced median pay refers to the average salary workers earned with a typical amount of experience at their job, not starting salaries, and the common major is based on the most popular bachelor’s degree found within each job title in the U.S. Here are some of the top experienced median salaries:
- VP, Business Development: $151,000 with a basic Engineering degree.
- Chief Architect, IT: Tie - $151,000 with an Electrical Engineering degree.
- VP, Construction Management Operations: $134,000 with a Civil Engineering degree.
- Sales Director: $125,000 with a Mechanical Engineering degree.
- Network Architect: $119,000 with an Electrical Engineering degree.
- Principal Electrical Engineer: $117,000 with an Electrical Engineering degree.
Most of the engineering degrees you’ll find on the list are either electrical, mechanical, or chemical, but there are a few other types in there, including marine engineering. In general, it seems an engineering degree will do you well once you get some experience, regardless of what you focus on. For the full list of all 31 jobs and salaries, check out the link below.
