College Abacus Gives a Personalized Price Comparison of Colleges

College is getting really expensive. Many parents and potential grads are becoming more business-minded when considering a college education. In the spirit of this mindset, College Abacus lets prospective students compare the cost of attending different universities.

According to Consumer Affairs, the site's founder, Abigail Seldin, calls it "the Kayak.com of college net price calculators." It's totally free, and here's how it works.

You enter in your target schools, then fill out some background info (finances, plans to live on campus, etc). From there, it gives you the "sticker price" of each university, and tells you what you might be able to get in grant aid. The site also breaks down the cost by tuition, room and supplies. The prices it shows are per year.

If you click on the details for each school, you can also see:

  • The percentage of grads who default on their student loans

  • The percentage of students who graduate in four years

  • Info on SAT and ACT scores

The most personal info you have to give is your zip code and birthdate. It's an incredibly useful tool for starting your college search—check it out for yourself using the link below.
