Use QuickTime as a Built-In, Simple Video Conversion Tool

QuickTime is one of those great little pack-in apps that does more than you expect. For example, it plays video, but it can also record your screen. Our friends over at How-To Geek also remind us that it’s perfect for converting between video formats.

QuickTime can’t natively play every popular video format (we’re looking at you, MKV), but for what it can play, it’s super easy to convert files. This is most handy when you want to convert a video to plauy on your iOS device or Apple TV. Just open up a video in QuickTime, then select File > Export. From here, you can export a video to a variety of formats. It’s no Handbrake (which is also free), but having a built-in option is always nice.
