This desktop may not look like much, but that’s precisely why it’s so great. It is actually customized, but just in the right ways, and in the ways that work best for shadownight, who submitted it to our desktop showcase. Here’s how it works.
Shadownight is running Ubuntu 15.10 with GNOME, and started with the wallpaper (which we agree is gorgeous.) The desktop was born around that. If you like the look, here’s what you’ll need:
- The wallpaper, from this Reddit thread (although the OP almost certainly did not take the photo originally)
- The Copernico shell theme, with a CSS tweak that shadownight used to make the top bar text bold
- The Super Flat Remix icon theme
- Conky, a lightweight system monitor for Linux systems
- This clock widget for Conky, modified with the Literata font
- The Activities Configurator shell extension to change the top bar text
- The Dynamic Panel Transparency shell extension to make the top bar translucent when no window is maximized
- The Remove Dropdown Arrows shell extension
That’s all the components to this one. You can see what it looks like with windows open in the image below:
All in all, it looks great—perfectly serene when you’re sitting down to work or closing your windows, and tweaked just right when it’s time to get things done to make the UI just that much smoother and more personal.
