Build a Magic Mirror with a Raspberry Pi and an Old Monitor

One of the trademark devices in nearly every Hollywood blockbuster version of the future is a smart mirror that shows off a daily schedule, clock, weather, and other important updates. Blogger Dylan Pierce built his own powered by a Raspberry Pi.

The project here is slightly complicated, but not overly so. It takes a two way mirror, stuffs a monitor behind it, and then powers the whole thing with a Raspberry Pi running in Chromium’s kiosk mode. This means that it pulls data from a web server set up on the Pi, so you can easily update and create your own display with little coding skills. We’ve seen a similar project before using an old Android device, but the Pi version allows you to work with much bigger sizes since it’s only limited by the size of a monitor or TV display.
