It’s good to wash your bed sheets regularly, but pet fur can make you want to wash them every single day. You can avoid that anxiety by making sure your linens match the color of your furry friends.
As much as you may love your pets, they can wreak havoc on your home. When they shed, their fur can get all over your linens whether you allow them on your bed or not. A dog with black fur, for example, can make a white bedspread look like it’s growing its own fur. That’s why Taryn Williford at Apartment Therapy recommends you match the linens to the color of your pet’s fur. If you have a pet with multiple colors, or if you have multiple pets, Williford found a good middle ground:
Bacon is black and white, so there’s not one perfect color for us. But we have a mess of sheets now that are medium tones of beige and gray, and they seem to be the best option for camouflaging the pet hair that finds its way into our bed, from the well-loved dog that finds its way into our bed, nightly.
If you can, it’s also a good idea to match the color of your furniture. Some fabrics and materials are better than others as well. This doesn’t mean you shouldn’t still wash your linens on a regular basis, but if you’re a bit of a neat freak like me, it will save you a bit of your sanity.
