It’s flu shot season again! You’ve no doubt seen the signs saying “walk right in, get a flu shot!” Before you impulsively obey that ad, find out the best places to get your flu shot this year.
Cheapism surveyed six of the largest pharmacy chains and warehouse clubs like Costco and Sam’s Club (as well as one doctor’s office in Columbus, Ohio) to break down the price for a flu shot at each provider:
Major pharmacy chains charge more than twice as much as Costco, the lowest-priced flu shot provider. It’s just a $17 difference, but still a reminder that when you’re out at Costco getting paper towels in bulk to stop by the pharmacy for your shot.
Cheapism offers a few excuses for not going to Costco if you’re so inclined: At CVS you could get a 20% discount on a single shopping trip after you get the flu shot, Target offers a 5% savings after filling 5 prescriptions (including the shot), and Walgreens donates vaccine for a child in need for every flu shot they give.
Check with your health insurance, though, since yours might cover some or all of the cost.
