Orbmiser put together this dual monitor desktop in Windows using a great-looking wallpaper taken by MSL Curiosity, some smart use of virtual desktops, and a few desktop widgets.
Since the last time we looked at a great dual monitor desktop you guys liked it, we figured we’d highlight another one. Orbmiser’s desktop is pretty simple—it’s Windows 7, running a few discontinued Yahoo widgets that still, somehow, manage to work on his desktop. Here’s what he uses, and what you’ll need if you want to get the same effect on your system:
- The MSL Mars at Twilight wallpaper
- The Steam VS for Windows 7 theme
- Dexpot for the virtual desktops (you can see them in the lower left of the right-side display)
- Winroll, which allows him to right-click the title bar of apps and “roll” it up so he can see behind it
Because Orbmiser is still using Yahoo! Widgets, you can go grab them from a third party source that still has the installer if you want (the calendar and weather widgets were bundled, so you can technically still use them), just be careful and only download them from a trustworthy source, since the software is so old. If you don’t want to go that route, our old friend Rainmeter can give you a similar result. If you like what you see, head over and check out Orbmiser’s Flickr page, linked below. He even has a similar setup using KDE Plasema 5 runing on Manjaro if you’re a Linux user!
Do you have a good-looking, functional desktop of your own to show off? Share it with us! Post it to your personal Kinja blog using the tag Desktop Showcase or add it to our Lifehacker Desktop Show and Tell Flickr pool. Screenshots must be at least at least 640x360 and please include information about what you used, links to your wallpaper, skins, and themes, and any other relevant details. If your awesome desktop catches our eye, you might get featured!
