AppleCare Will Now Replace Any Battery Below 80% Health

Whether you have a Mac laptop, an iPhone, iPad, iPod, or Apple Watch, that Applecare+ is starting to look like a better deal: Apple will now replace any battery that’s worn down to 80% capacity.

Over the past week, Apple has quietly updated its AppleCare terms for both iOS devices and Macs. Previously, iOS batteries had to be at 50% health to quality for a replacement. Now, you can get them replaced at only 80% health, which is great. Macs are in the same boat: previously, only defective batteries were covered, not batteries that wore out over time. Now, that AppleCare policy covers any battery that retains less than 80% of its original capacity.

By design, these batteries shouldn’t lose that much health within the extended warranty period, but if you use yours often enough, it is certainly possible to reach that point. Generally, we don’t recommend extended warranties, but if you’re a heavy user, this is a pretty nice addition.
