iOS/Android: If you’re self-employed, you can deduct mileage expenses from your taxes. But most of us don’t think to keep up with our mileage during the year, and that leads to a rough, likely inaccurate estimate at tax time. Everlance aims to change that by keeping track of your mileage for you.
The app is especially useful for independent contractors who work for Uber, TaskRabbit, or other peer-to-peer sharing services that require a heavy amount of driving. You can use it for any type of work, though.
When you take a trip, your journey shows up as a card, which is basically a map snapshot. To categorize the trip as work-related, simply swipe right on the card. From your dashboard, you can look at and categorize recent trips, see how much you’ve saved on taxes, and add other work-related expenses, income, and transactions.
You do have to sign up to use the app, and, of course, in order for it to work, you have to allow it to access your location. Their privacy and security policy says they store your info in “limited access servers” and take “reasonable safeguards” to protect your information, but they don’t detail what these safeguards are. You’ll want to review the full privacy policy here. iOS users can download the app from the Apple Store, and Android users can request an invite at the link below.
