Bring Back Touch to Search in Chrome For Android With This Setting

Chrome for Android had a neat little feature that allows you to tap a word to do a Google search for the word without leaving the page you’re on. It’s gone missing for some, but here’s how to bring it back.

As noted by Android Police, this feature was added in version 38 of Chrome, but some users have noticed that it’s no longer enabled by default. If that’s true for you, here’s how to turn it back on:

  1. Open chrome://flags in Chrome for Android.
  2. Search for “Enable Contextual Search.”
  3. Switch the dropdown box to “Enabled.”
  4. Relaunch Chrome.

Now, when you tap a word or phrase in Chrome, you should see the slide-up Google search panel. It’s unclear why Google disabled the feature, but it’s not the only way to search for a piece of text on a page, so maybe Google thought it was redundant. Either way, it’s nice that we can bring it back.
