(Web/iOS/Android): Subway stations can be big and complicated. Depending on where you get off, you could end up walking a bit to the right street exit or to your next platform. Citymapper will tell you the best spot to hop on and off your train for the nearest possible exit.
Like Google Maps, it tells you how to get from Point A to Point B using your city’s subway system (it currently works in 30 cities around the world, with more to come). But beyond the basics, Citymapper comes with a few features that make it worth using.
Namely, their Train Car Exits feature shows you precisely where to sit on the train so you can be in the best possible spot to exit or transfer when you reach your stop:
In trips and GO mode we will advise you where (front / middle / back) to get on the train in order to be best positioned to the exit / transfer when you get off. In peak hours this will knock minutes off your journey time and lead to more combined zen in the city.
The app can alert you when you reach your stop, too. It will also tell you how much the subway costs, comparing prices to taking a cab along that same route. Another cool feature: it shows you how many calories you can expect to burn if you take that same route by foot or bike.
It’s a useful app if you’re a regular subway user, but it’s also great if you’re traveling to one of the cities on their list, too. Riding the subway can be intimidating if you’re not used to the system, and Citymapper helps make a little more sense of it with precise, step-by-step instructions.
I’ve taken the subway in unfamiliar cities, and when I get off, I’m often confused at which platform I need to exit from. This makes sure you exit in the right place, because it’ll be the nearest place. Give it a try for yourself at the link below.
