A soggy matchbox with wet matches will put a damper on any campfire experience. Make this weatherproof match container from a mason jar and light strike-anywhere matches whenever you want, regardless of the weather.
Use a small 4 oz. mason jar and glue 80 grit sandpaper to the inside of the lid (photo above shows outside but inside will last longer). Then fill up the jar with strike anywhere matches, and you’ve got an instant weatherproof match jar with a lid you can use to light them up.
This setup is more decorative and recommended for matches you prefer to leave outside for lighting candles, fire pits, and charcoal grills. The glass is too heavy to take camping and a hazard if it breaks. Pickup a waterproof match case that’s made for camping if you intend on traveling with it.
