When we think of confidence, it's hard not to associate it with being successful. Confidence isn't really about success or failure, though. It's about jumping in and taking action regardless of what the outcome will be.
Having confidence is something a lot of us struggle with on a daily basis. We have a hard time focusing on what's happening right in front of us and instead focus on our own insecurities. But when it comes down to it, confidence may have more to do with our perception and courage as individuals. While co-authoring the book "The Confidence Code", ABC News correspondent Claire Shipman interviewed a Buddhist scholar named Sharon Salzberg. What Salzberg said about confidence really stuck with Shipman:
"It's an ability to move toward things wholeheartedly. To move toward challenges wholeheartedly without holding back... The ability to be able to just take that risk and jump into things and benefit from what it feels like to just leave your comfort zone and just do something and learn..."
In a way, confidence is about being comfortable with being uncomfortable. It's about capturing that moment right before you do something you're unsure of in a bottle. The moments right before you jump off the high dive into the pool or approach someone you've never met to introduce yourself. When you get those moments, relish the opportunity and remember that those moments are the key to confidence. Be brave and keep moving toward things wholeheartedly.
