How to Watch Disney+ Movies in Chronological Order

Ever since Disney+, the company’s streaming service, launched in November 2019, it has quickly become a *family favorite (*including families of one). Although there were a few glitches in its first few weeks, those appear to be fixed, and users have since been able to focus on features like recommendation lists. But let’s say you want to watch all the Disney movies in chronological order? The good folks at Showbiz CheatSheet recently showed us how to do it.

How to watch movies in chronological order on Disney+

The first step is finding the “Disney Through the Decades” feature (which was added based on customer feedback after the streaming service first launched). But the tricky part is this includes things like animated shorts, as well as movies made by any currently Disney-owned studios, like 20th Century Fox, and all the “Star Wars” and Marvel Cinematic Universe films, too.

Organized by era, “Disney Through the Decades” starts with “Steamboat Willie” from 1927, which marks the debut of Mickey Mouse, then goes into the Silly Symphonies, and other character-based shorts. But, as Showbiz CheatSheet points out, not all animated shorts are included. Things start to look up, though, a decade later, with 1937's “Snow White and the Seven Dwarves.” After that, all classic animated Disney movies are included through the feature. And while there are some live-action Disney films, those aren’t all there, either.

If you want to take matters into your own hands, there are several online lists—like this one from IMDb—that lists all Disney movies in chronological order based on their release. Whether you want to watch the movies in the order of their release for your own entertainment, or to give your kids an overview of how animation went from black-and-white drawings to computer-generated large-eyed baby women, this should help you do it.
