Today is National Voter Registration Day, and if you haven’t before, this is an excellent opportunity to register to vote before the presidential election. All over the country today, volunteers are coordinating efforts to create awareness around the importance of voting and how just easy it is to sign up. According to the NVRD’s website, over 800,000 voters registered on this day last year—and that number will probably grow with 2020 around the corner.

To register, just visit the National Voter Registration Day’s website, fill in your address, email, and phone number; you will be redirected to your state’s registration website where you’ll provide similar details. (The overall process takes two minutes.) If you don’t have a driver’s license or a Non-Driver state ID, you may have to fill out an extra application to register to vote. For these details and deadlines in your state, be sure to check Vote411's website.

If you’d rather register in person, find a voter registration event happening today near you. Once you’re registered, go ahead and share the news on social media so that your friends and family will do the same if they haven’t already.

Remember, if you’ve registered to vote before, you do not have to re-register unless you’ve moved, changed your name or have not voted in the last four years. If you voted in the 2016 presidential election and haven’t changed addresses, you’re probably safe. To be sure, you can check on your existing voter status by doing an online search for “voter registration status” and your state and plug in your name, address, birthday, and any other necessary information.
