Whenever you go to a conference or networking event there’s always a point where you’re trying to figure out how to stay connected to the people you’ve met, at least some of them, after it all ends.
This week I moderated a panel on productivity at a travel conference and one of the panelists made an interesting suggestion on how to make that happen: the Find Nearby feature on Linked In.
Think of it sort of like Airdrop, but for LinkedIn connections. When you turn the feature on you’ll be able to see all of the other people around you who also have the feature turned on, making it easy to connect with those individuals.
That means if you’re at a networking event, you’ll be able to see all of the other people who are also there and connect with those you’d like to chat with later without exchanging business cards or asking someone to spell their name so you can scroll through the 95 other people with their name on LinkedIn before you find their actual profile.
To use it you’ll need the LinkedIn app on your phone.
Activate Bluetooth on your device and then go to “My Network” in the app followed by “Connect” and then “Find Nearby.”
That will instantly surface the names and profiles of anyone else that has the feature on near you so you can connect with them quickly.
If that’s a thing you were going to do later at home anyway, this is infiniately easier.
Worth noting: This feature is going to stay on until you turn it off, so once you leave that networking event, make sure you disable it. Unless, of course, you want to be constantly discoverable in the app whenever you go.
