Make a DIY Camera Lens Case Out of Plastic Bottles

Being a casual photographer without much gear, I’m reluctant to spend money on things like proper camera bags and cases. I’d rather MacGyver a solution with whatever’s on hand—like this DIY lens case made from plastic bottles and bubble wrap.

In this video from Eva Landry (part ten in a series of 12 tricks), we see how you can fashion a rudimentary lens case by taping two plastic bottles together and lining them with bubble wrap. She even adds a zipper to join the two halves together. Sure, it’s not a particularly elegant solution, but using the two bottom ends of the bottle adds a nice crunch zone to protect the bottom and top of your lens when you toss it in your bag or suitcase. Of course you probably wouldn’t do this with proper (expensive) glass, but sometimes I just wrap my kit lens in a sock. Classy, but not as classy (or effective) as plastic bottles.
