Six Car Safety Sensors You Should Always Keep Clean During Winter

If you drive a relatively new car, there are usually a few sensors and cameras in place to help keep you safe. Here are the six major sensors on your car you should look for and keep clean of snow, ice, and dirt this winter.

The winter makes cars incredibly dirty. Snow can cover major portions of your car, or melt and leave behind ice and dirt. Sand and salt can get kicked up off the road and onto your car as well. All of this material can make it kind of hard for your car’s safety sensors to function properly. This video from the Consumer Reports YouTube channel shows you the most important areas on your car to keep clean. Use a rag with a little soap and water, and clean your backup camera lens, your bumper sensors, your blind spot monitoring panels, your windshield camera and sensor, your 360 degree camera on your side mirrors or grille, and your entire grille in general. Obviously, if you drive an older car, these tips aren’t for you. If you drive a somewhat new car, however, a clean car is a safe car.
