Make Hand Washing Easier for Your Kid by Reusing a Sippy Cup

Young kids can have trouble washing their hands without splashing water everywhere. Luckily, a mess-free, fun solution is probably already in your kitchen: Modify an old sippy cup to control the flow of water and minimize mess.

You can see how this works in the video above. If you can’t watch, you mount the bottom of the sippy cup onto the faucet, so it narrows the outlet for the water. This way, not too much comes out even if your child accidentally turns the faucet on full force. The sippy cup also extends the faucet so your toddler is washing their hands lower down in the sink, which means any water that splashes stays in the bowl.

Here’s how to make your own:

1. Cut a hole in the bottom of an old sippy cup, just wide enough to fit the faucet in the hole.
2. Make sure the lid is screwed on tightly to avoid water escaping, then place it over the faucet.
3. Test the angle of the water to make sure your kid can reach it. If not, adjust the angle the sippy cup is attached to the faucet.

If your toddler has a favorite animal, using a sippy cup with that animal on it can make washing their hands more fun. You can also throw this modified sippy cup in your bag so you’ve always got it on hand for other bathrooms, even when out and about with your kid.
