The holiday shopping season is about to start. Whether you're planning to go out shopping on Black Friday or have better plans, one quick way to get a grip on where deals will show up is last year's ads.
Deal hunter site Nerd Wallet has done a hefty amount of research into Black Friday deals to determine whether or not they're worthwhile. What they found was that, in 93% of cases they examined, this year's ads contained many of the same items for the same prices as last year. A discovery that isn't all that new, either.
Now, the obvious downside here is that some items may not be a great deal, even if they're in the ad section (in fact, perhaps especially then). However, the flip side is that you can use often last year's ads to get a glimpse into what to hunt for this year. They're obviously not valid, but they can give you an idea of where to look and what to buy. In particular, check out last year's ads from after Black Friday for any stores that may have had the items you're looking for even cheaper before you stand in the cold for six hours on Thanksgiving.
