Aria DiMezzo is transexual, a metalhead, and a “high priestess of the Reformed Satanic Church.” In 2020, she added “official Republican Party nominee for sheriff of Cheshire County, New Hampshire” to her resumé. DiMezzo, whose campaign slogan was “fuck the police,” received over 4,000 votes. In keeping with the idea of Satanism as provocation, DiMezzo says she ran as a way of highlighting how uninformed voters are, and was shocked that she actually won. “I went into it expecting that I would lose the primary to a write-in candidate, because I didn’t think that so many voters were just… completely and totally oblivious about who they are voting for,” DiMezzo wrote on her blog. She lost the general election, but still received 25 percent of the vote.
