Chrome desktop users have long been able to outfit the browser with third-party extensions that track prices and help you find the best deals, but those add-ons don’t work on Android. Luckily, Google is rolling out a new feature in Chrome mobile that will keep a vigilant eye out for price drops on shopping tabs you have open in the background.
The new Android price tracking function is part of the Chrome version 90 update available now from the Google Play Store. Once Chrome is up to date, you can enable price tracking with the following steps:
- Open a page with an item you want to price track in the Chrome app.
- Tap the open tabs icon to the right of the URL bar to open the tab selection grid.
- Tap the three-dot menu button at the top-right of the screen.
- Select “Track prices,” then toggle on the option in the next menu. You can also tap “Get notified” if you see the option at the bottom of the screen.
- With Track Prices enabled, Chrome sends push notifications whenever it notices a change in prices on any of your open tabs. Remember to keep these tabs open in the background so the feature will work.

If you don’t see the Track Prices option even after updating Chrome, the feature hasn’t rolled out to you quite yet. It should show up soon, but you can try forcing it to appear using Chrome’s experimental flags menu:
- In a new Chrome tab, go to chrome://flags/#enable-tab-grid-layout
- Select “Enabled Price notifications” from the drop-down menu under “Tab Grid Layout.”
- Tap “Relaunch” to apply the changes to reboot the browser.
- Once Chrome has relaunched, follow the steps above to enable price tracking.
These steps may not work for everyone, even if “Enabled Price notifications” is available from the Tab grid layout flag’s options; Android Police and 9to5Google report success enabling Chrome’s Price tracking this way, but it didn’t work for us or for The Verge.
Give it a shot anyway. And even if it doesn’t work, Price Tracking should show up for all Chrome Android users eventually.
