Prevent Shampoo Bottles From Leaking in Your Luggage Using Plastic Wrap

I have officially reached a point in life where traveling involves bringing a handful of liquid toilettes with me. While I was once fine with whatever shampoo and lotion options the hotel provided, now I’m a bit more particular about those things, which means I also have to be a bit more particular about how I pack.

I have small travel versions of a lot of things, but occasionally I have to throw a full-size in the bag for one reason or another, which immediately begs the question “How do I get this to not spill everywhere?”

Shampoo, conditioner, and other bottles with the rocker tops are easy to use, but they’re prone to opening in your bag, which means you have to store them in a large ziplock when you do pack them, and in the event they do open you’re scooping that expensive shampoo out of a plastic bag on your first shower away.

This week I came across a solution that can help: put plastic under those caps.

It’s a simple solution, easy to do, and oh-so-obvious. That said, I never considered doing it. You can get the job done in a few seconds using plastic wrap, or if the accident has already happened on your journey you can also use shower caps from the hotel room for the return trip.

The idea here is to just give your bottles an extra layer of protection should they get squished or bumped around in your checked luggage.

It’s not a foolproof plan, in that I imagine the right squish on this will result in a suitcase full of shampoo as well, but it will give you a bit more of a fighting chance at getting that liquid safely to your destination.
