March brings us several class action settlements from major corporations like Apple, American Airlines, Lexus, and Toyota. These settlements cover a range of issues from false claims to product defects. If you are eligible, you can receive compensation and free services as long as you file your claims by these quickly approaching deadlines. Here’s what to know.

Apple MacBook keyboard settlement: March 6

Apple has agreed to pay a $50 million class action settlement for giving their customers a poor typing experience on some of its the MacBook keyboards. People who bought a MacBook (including Air and Pro) between 2015 and 2019 might have bought a laptop with a “butterfly” keyboard, which describes the hardware mechanism under each key that became widely unpopular. If you had to have your keyboard repaired, and it was any of these models, you qualify for the settlement.

Check the official settlement to find out which group number you are a member of (which determines how much settlement you will receive) and submit your claim here.

Subaru batteries settlement: March 9

Subaru has accepted a settlement having to do with their customers complaining that car batteries in certain models and years would drain prematurely. The settlement says Subaru knew about the issue and failed to inform their consumers.

If you owned or leased a 2015-2020 Outback, 2015-2020 Forester, 2015-2020 Legacy, 2015-2020 WRX, or 2019-2020 Ascent, you will automatically have the warranty on your battery extended. Those who already paid on issues involving the battery and other expenses qualify to have their money reimbursed. Check the qualification details here.

Toyota and Lexus fuel pump settlement: March 14

According to the settlement, fuel tanks in certain Toyota and Lexus vehicles are equipped with defective Denso-manufactured fuel pumps that are in violation of various state consumer protection statutes, among other claims.

If you owned, leased, previously owned, purchased, or leased a Toyota or Lexus vehicle listed here, you could qualify for this class action settlement. To determine if you qualify, use this VIN lookup tool. Depending on your vehicle, you’ll qualify for different benefits, including reimbursement of certain out-of-pocket expenses; a Customer Support Program, which will provide prospective coverage of 15 years for any repairs to correct defects in the fuel pumps; or an Extended New Parts Warranty of 15 years, or 150,000 total odometer miles.

Fill out this claim form before the deadline if you qualify.

Coffee-Mate settlement: March 14

Nestle has agreed to pay $10 million in settlements in a lawsuit alleging that they made false claims about the number of servings each container of its Coffee-Mate powdered creamer contained. People who bought at least one or more Coffee-Mate brand powder coffee creamer products from this list between Jan. 1, 2017, and Dec. 8, 2022, qualify for the settlement.

If you have no proof of purchase, you get $0.50 per Unit purchased, up to a maximum of $5.00 per household. If you do have proof of purchase, you can get up to a maximum of $40.00 per household.

You can file your claim here.

American Airlines baggage fees settlement: March 15

This is the same settlement we covered in February. The deadline has been extended to March 15:

If you flew with American Airlines and checked a bag for flights purchased between Feb. 24, 2017 and April 9, 2020, you may qualify for a slice of a $7.5 million settlement if any one of these is true:

  • You received an email confirmation for one or more free checked bags.
  • You had an American Airlines Citi credit card, which should’ve entitled you to one free checked bag per flight.
  • You have an American Airlines branded Barclay’s credit card, which should’ve also granted you one free checked bag per flight.

If you qualify, you can submit a claim against the $7.5 million settlement fund. You will receive a full refund for your checked bag fees, ranging from $30 to $200 for four or more bags. You can file your claim here. American Airlines will use your information to verify whether you qualify for the settlement, so you don’t need a proof of purchase to submit the claim.

The settlement’s final hearing is scheduled for Friday, May 5, 2023. You can expect the payments to be sent afterward.

All-Clad Cookware settlement: March 27

All-Clad has agreed to a $4 million settlement for a class action lawsuit alleging it misrepresented its cookware as dishwasher-safe. According to the plaintiffs, putting the cookware in the dishwasher caused the non-stick surface to peel away, leaving sharp edges.

If your All-Clad had “sharp edges” after being run through the dishwasher, you are eligible for a replacement, a payment, and/or a credit toward a future purchase of All-Clad cookware. You can see your three options in more detail here. Check out more information about being eligible here.

If your All-Clad didn’t have “sharp edges” (or it did, but you discarded the cookware) after being run through the dishwasher, you can still file a claim with proof of purchase to receive a purchase credit of 35% off purchases on any product or products on All-Clad’s website.

If you qualify, file your claim here.
