Focus on Hard Work To Address Accomplishments Without Being Boastful


Most of us have a tendency to diminish our accomplishments. Someone congratulates us, and we tell them, "ah, it's no big deal." We don't want to seem boastful. But it's okay to address your wins, and you can do it modestly by focusing on your hard work.


Next time someone compliments you, there's a better way to respond than simply brushing it off. The Muse suggests:



Talk About How You Intend to Keep Working Harder (Not Rest on Your Laurels) Say: "I just got a big opportunity that, quite honestly, is going to challenge me like no previous position has before. I'm feeling really motivated to prove to everyone that they made the right choice in hiring me."



Of course, you'll tone it down or vary it, depending on the conversation. But I like this tip because it shows you appreciate your accomplishment. It also focuses on the fact that you're not just luckier and better than everyone—you worked for it. It's a lot easier for people to relate and empathize with someone who worked hard to get what they deserve and is thankful for it.
