It’s no secret that Amazon’s Fire Phone has been a flop. But considering that it started out at $650 unlocked, today’s deal on the handset might just be enough to move a few more units.
Today only, you can get the Fire Phone unlocked for just $169, which is within $10 of an all-time low. Admittedly, that’s still a decent chunk of change, but consider what else it comes with:
- A year of Amazon Prime ($99 value)
- Amazon’s surprisingly-excellent magnetic earbuds ($19 value)
- A Micro USB cable and power adapter (worth a few bucks, I guess)
So really, you’d be paying about a $50 premium for the phone itself. Even if it’s not your daily driver, you could do a lot worse than to keep it around as a backup if your main phone ever breaks. Or, you could use it as some kind of Amazon-centric iPod Touch. Or pop in a prepaid T-Mobile or AT&T SIM card to test out their signal in your area, if you’re interested in switching.
