Install a DIY Ceiling Fan and Save Energy this Summer

As you prepare for warmer temperatures this summer consider installing a ceiling fan. It's not as difficult as you may think and you'll save energy on cooling costs. Here's an in-depth video showing the complete process.

Hunter Fan Company has a 5 minute fan model that is sold on Amazon as well as at Home Depot and Lowe's. The 5 minute install premise is very appealing, but in reality it takes a bit longer, especially if you've never installed a ceiling fan before.

The fan includes a dome light and three-speed fan that is 90% assembled. You need to attach the fan blades, but other than that you simply remove your existing light fixture, mount the new one and wire it up.

You'll need a drill, 9/64 bit, standard and phillips screwdrivers, wire stripper, and crescent wrench. Plus a stable step stool or ladder.

Remember you can run your ceiling fan in reverse in the winter to keep your house warm.
